discovering 'core creative concepts'.

 

Typography is an integral part of communication design education. Learing typography is an art as well a skill. 

 

Students should gain a sound knowledge of type character / anatomy to avoid abusing alphabets proportions and skeleton. Generating type character through hand using trditional drafting methods is not only a fun exercise rather it also teach students to respect the fine art of typeface design.

Basic Typography

On an advance level students should start by learning digital type setting and copy fitting. The essence of good typography is in details and this exercise will develop the eye for such details.

Advertising Design

Campaign development is taught in accordance to the Modernist and post modernist theories of Semiotics, Author is Dead, Less is More etc. Briefs are set to explore the potential of photography, copy writing, illustration and image manipulation.

Visualization

Visualization is heart and soul of any communication design program. I usally set challanging and open to interpretation brief to teach students vizualization techniques. Such brief usually covers all aspects of design process from initial visual and data research,  / keeping a visual journal / scribbling ideas and finally prototyping the final outcome of design peice.
